The town of
Abohar is situated at the junction of Punjab, Haryana, and
Rajasthan. It is shown not only in map of India but also in map
published by Edward Stone Courd in London about 120 years ago.
It was shown as ‘Abunargrar’ in International Map. As the story
goes when uncle of ‘Siraj Afique’ was Amatdar in Abohar on
behalf of Nawab Allaudin Khilji in 14th centaury the
Arab National Tourist Ibanbatata reached here on his Bharat
Darshan program, he called Abohar as gateway top North India,
Described it as under:
“Abunagar is a
city beautiful as saw on my way from Muttan to Delhi” But the
beautiful city Abunagri as quoted by him was destroyed due to
clash between Panj Pir and daughter of Raja Abiram Chander on a
minor issue of some horses. But remains of that old city are
still visible known as Theh. It was built by Suryavanshi king
Aba Chnadin with love and care. Historians note that it was
ruled by Raja Takht Singh of Jodhpur in 18th
centaury. Ferozeshah Tuglaque was related to Abohar from
marten’s side. Naima, the mother of Ferozshah Tuglauqe was
daughter of raja Bhim Singh.
Abohar was part
of distt. Sirsa till 1884 when it was attached to distt.
Ferozpur. The famous clock tower (unfortunately the clock is
non-functional now) was built in 1897 establishment day of Queen
Victoria.
The remains of
old city are only in pages of ../history but the stone bearing name
of Kesarganj still reminds us of those golden days.
The planned
progress of Abohar was started by end of 18th
centaury when Abunagri was declared as ‘notified area’. It had
then two parts old Abohar and Mandi Kesarganj, old Abohar is now
represented by patel Nagar, Prem Nagar, Nanak Nagri, Gobind
Nagri and Jammu Basti. It is claimed that Sutlej River passed
from this place. Jasnail Road connecting Delhi and Karachi
passed through what is now known as Jammu basti.
British Empire
purchased 400 Acres of land from a Muslim Subhan Sukhera. Nobody
have ever thought that Abunagri will become Abohar and will have
green trees, Malta and kinnu will be grown in abundance. Big
motor cars will run on roads. This town now having over one lac
population, is becoming an example in every field be it
politics, education, social awareness or any other.
It is not
possible to have a proper perspective of Today’s Abohar without
having a look at its glorious past.
